Chiropractic – What is it and Why Should You See One

Chiropractic is a drug free health care profession founded on the principle that good health depends, in large part, upon a normally functioning nervous system (especially the spine and the nerves extending from it to all parts of the body). The structure and motion of the spine are intimately connected to the function of the nervous system. Chiropractors are specially trained to locate and correct spinal misalignments (subluxations). When the vertebrae are properly adjusted they can take pressure off of the nerves extending from the spine, allowing them to relay clearer messages to the body. This may improve organ function, immune system performance and healing.

Patients seek chiropractic care because of pain, stiffness, numbness and/or tingling in their backs, necks, shoulders, arms or legs. They may also suffer from headaches, digestive problems, allergies, heart disease, breathing difficulties and much more. Chiropractors have a unique perspective to help these conditions because they focus on the body’s innate ability to restore itself without outside interference (i.e. medication). Medications interfere with your body’s natural healing process and can cause side effects.

The underlying reason Dr Sammy Somerhalder chose to become a chiropractor was because he was attracted to the professions dedication to discovering and addressing the causes of the condition rather than just masking the symptoms. This is in line with current healthcare trends that are embracing multidisciplinary teams of experts to ensure better outcomes for patients. It is this type of teamwork that will save lives.
