Jewellery Cleaner – How to Clean Your Earrings

Whether it’s a platinum bangle or a pair of copper costume earrings, jewellery gets dirty over time. Oil and dander from your skin, dust from the environment and build-up of hand and dish soap can all dull your accessories. To keep them looking their best, a regular cleaning schedule is a must. There are several methods available to clean your jewellery, including liquid cleaners that come with a dip basket and brush and ultrasonic machines. The right choice for you will depend on your budget, time and the type of jewellery you wear.

If you’re in a hurry, the classic dishwashing solution of one cup of warm water and just a few drops of mild dish soap is an effective option for most jewelry items. Soak your jewellery pieces for a few minutes and scrub if needed. This method is best for removing light spots and tarnish. It isn’t suitable for pearls or other porous gemstones, and it may not be strong enough to remove heavy dirt and rust.

For a deeper clean, try a tumbler or a jewellery cleaner with a mild polishing action. These cleaners have a motor driven rotating barrel that holds ceramic or stainless steel shot of varying sizes and shapes. A small amount of a mild polishing agent is mixed in with the shot, and then your jewellery is put into the barrel to get polished mechanically. After the tumbling process is complete, rinse your jewellery well and dry it with a soft cloth or paper towel. jewellery cleaner
