Types of Commercial Water Tanks

Commercial water tanks are an integral part of many industries, used to store well water as a backup for daily use, or even to catch rainwater from the roofs of buildings. These tanks come in a variety of sizes, styles and capacities to suit different needs and environments. Whether it’s for storage of potable drinking water, wastewater, chemicals or other liquids requiring high sanitation standards, these tanks are built to last and resist the elements. One of the most common types of metal water tanks are stainless steel tanks, which offer exceptional durability and corrosion resistance. Typically used in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical, or waste treatment facilities, these tanks are also often installed as reverse osmosis water tank components to keep constant pressure, and the gallon capacity listed on the label refers to the total void volume of the tank, not its actual gallons of water.

The final common type of metal water tank is the hydropneumatic storage tank, also known as a blowdown tank or expansion tank. This tank is used in hot or chilled water systems to prevent rapid fluctuation of the temperature, which causes frequent stops and starts of equipment (short cycling).
